The Alpaca Experience at Hanna Hands Farm
Service Animals for Persons with Disabilities
All people with disabilities, including those who are accompanied by service animals, are welcome at The Alpaca Experience at Hanna Hands Farm. Pets, regardless of species, are not allowed on the farm. The Alpaca Experience at Hanna Hands Farm considers any visitor’s animal, not defined as a “service animal” by the American with Disabilities Act, to be a pet.
Staff shall not ask for proof of a person’s disability or ask for a demonstration that the animal can actually perform a service.
If a service animal behaves in a way that poses a direct threat to the health or safety of humans or other animals, including livestock, livestock guardian dogs, other farm animals or wildlife, has a history of such behavior, barks, or is otherwise disruptive, is not under the control of the handler, or is not housebroken (i.e. trained so that, absent illness or accident, the animal controls its waste elimination) the animal’s owner may be required to remove the animal from the premises. Service animals may not disrupt others (people and animals, including farm animals) by unreasonable noise, odors or other behaviors.
The owner of a service animal must maintain control of the animal at all times and is responsible for the care and supervision of the service animal, which includes toileting, feeding, grooming, and veterinary care. The Alpaca Experience at Hanna Hands Farm is not obligated to supervise or otherwise care for a service animal.
Service animals should remain in public areas only and shall not be permitted access to non-public or restricted areas. Due to the natural predator/prey instinct, some of our animals may react quickly or violently to the presence of a service animal, which can cause injury or even death. Service animals should be immediately removed from the area if a farm animal becomes distressed or overly aggressive. Access may be restricted on the day of your visit due to specific animal health concerns, such as recent birth or vulnerable young. Service animals are excluded from the following areas where guests have direct access to animals and the presence of a service animal would be disruptive or dangerous: inside the alpaca barn and inside the chicken courtyard. Service animals may not come within ten feet of rabbits, chicks, lambs, kids or crias. Using livestock, livestock guardian dogs or guests of The Alpaca Experience at Hanna Hands Farm for service animal training is not allowed.
